KinderVision® - The National Child Safety Education Program - Who We Are

Prevention Through Education

Created in 1991 as a result of the kidnapping and murder of seven year old Leticia Hernandez in Southern California, KinderVision® is a national child safety education program dedicated to the protection of children from abduction and sexual exploitation. Developed with the assistance of law enforcement and research including an interview with a convicted child killer, the KinderVision educational materials are designed to be an ongoing resource for families, for schools, for law enforcement, and for all youth-serving organizations to teach children and youth how to be safe from sexual predators - because The Greatest Save is the one we never have to make. The program is available in English and Spanish and is funded solely through corporate sponsorships and contributions with the materials provided FREE to families whenever possible on site, on air, and on line.

At each KV Kids Event, families are provided with a FREE K.I.N.D.I video narrated by law enforcement that enables families to instruct their children on circumstances to avoid and to reinforce ways to protect their children from harm. Children are recorded on the end of the safety education message so they enjoy watching it and thus learn the material contained in it more easily. State and local law enforcement agencies and local fire departments are invited to participate with their family information programs and events are staffed with local law enforcement explorer groups whenever possible.

Aimed at preventing child abductions and child exploitation, the K.I.N.D.I. video is used by schools, youth groups, and law enforcement, in addition to families.

The KinderVision on air safety education campaign is a series of educational messages taken from the K.I.N.D.I. video that are broadcast through local media affiliates and are designed to reach the general population with this valuable safety information in addition to the KinderVision safety information provided online.
