What is Managing Risk? Managing risk means being aware or our surroundings, knowing where we are and who is around us. Managing risk means being aware of whether our actions are moving us toward or away from increased risk. Managing risk means being aware of what resources and knowledge we have available when we find ourselves in an elevated risk level. It is critically important that we educate ourselves and our family on personal safety so that all family members recognize risk and respond instinctively.
The goal of the KV monthly MRIR Message is to educate you on circumstances that can increase the level of risk to you or your family with regard to personal safety and therebyenable you to manage it more effectively. Review this information and the tips below for the next 30 days so it becomes part of you and your family’s instinctive response to any situation that threatens your personal safety. Managing risk through education reduces crime and saves lives. For example, knowing that most crimes against children are crimes of opportunity can affect how you and your children view your surroundings
What can you do to manage risk? Law enforcement knows that it is possible for anyone at any age to reduce his or her risk of becoming a victim. The way to do that is through education. Education is the most critical and advanced element we have to protect ourselves and others. We can manage our risk more effectively if we know what puts us at risk and what steps can be taken to reduce that risk.
